Hello friends,
Today’s post is a bit different. Last Monday, I completed my first real project as a painter. I started it unofficially this summer, gathering inspiration, trying things, and refining ideas but as there was no due date, nothing really happened: I was lost in the « could be » dimension.
So on Monday, to my own surprise, I stood up, opened a new pack of Arches paper and decided that I’d just focus on finishing the pack, create the atmosphere I needed and no matter what, « don’t give your brain a minute to think ». I prepared 6 canvases simultaneously, with a limited palette of 4 tubes of gouache and then, with 4 oils pastels ( if love Sennelier !) to create the story.
I wanted to tell a story about finding a bit of stillness, quietness, fresh air, space and freedom just for one day. As my anxiety level was quite high during the last couple of weeks, feeling unable to breathe, or to process “in a standard behaviour”, I found some mental space in painting landscapes, obsessed with sunrise and sunset lights, and the specific quietness of the moment spent alone whilst everyone is asleep.
I’m sharing my work here, with mixed feelings of pride, joy and fear, not entirely satisfied but,for the first time ,I can say that I have gained some clarity in the path I’m following, I know that I can create something without planning every step, without overthinking it. I’ll maybe write another post about my new creative process, things I’ve learnt recently about my practice, art etc… but I wanted to share this small collection before being stopped by fear or anxiety.
I hope you’ll find some peace in it.
That's all for me today,
see you soon,
Lyly
I really feel the narrative of stillness and freedom in this beautiful collection. Thank you for sharing your work and your process! 🙏❤️
Beautiful Lyly. Glad you found some spaciousness in the creativity.
